Acrylic Signage: The Modern Favorite
Clear, frosted, and colored acrylic dominates modern wedding signage, and it cuts beautifully on a laser. The edges come out flame-polished and glassy straight off the machine, with no sanding needed.
Popular acrylic options
Clear acrylic (1/8″ to 1/4″) is the classic choice for welcome signs and seating charts. Lettering is either engraved into the surface or applied in vinyl, and the sign is often displayed on an easel or against a floral wall. Frosted acrylic softens the look and makes engraved text easier to read in bright venues. Colored and mirrored acrylics work well for accent pieces like table numbers, cake toppers, drink signs, and place cards. For engraved clear acrylic, a paint fill or a backing panel adds contrast so text reads clearly in photos.
Acrylic is also forgiving outdoors: it won’t warp from humidity the way some woods can, which matters for garden and beach ceremonies.
Wood Signage: Warm and Rustic
For rustic, boho, and garden-style events, laser-cut wood is the go-to. We regularly cut and engrave Baltic birch plywood, walnut, maple, and MDF for painted pieces.
What wood does best
Wood shines for freestanding script words (“welcome,” couples’ names, “cards”), layered signs where cut lettering is glued onto a contrasting panel, table numbers with bases, and engraved keepsakes like guest-book alternatives. Baltic birch is the workhorse: affordable, stable, and clean-cutting at 1/8″ to 1/2″ thickness. Hardwoods like walnut cost more but photograph beautifully and make signage guests want to keep.
One planning note: laser cutting leaves a slightly darkened edge on wood. Many couples love that subtle burnt outline; if you don’t, we can seal or paint the edges as a finishing step.
Finishing Options That Elevate the Piece
The difference between a decent sign and a stunning one is usually finishing. Common options we handle include paint-filled engraving for high-contrast text, spray-painted or stained wood letters (gold and white are perennial favorites), applied vinyl lettering on clear acrylic, layered assemblies combining materials such as wood script mounted on frosted acrylic, and standoffs, bases, or easels for display. If your event has a specific palette, bring a color reference; matching the lettering to invitations and florals ties everything together.
Timing, Files, and Cost Planning
Most signage packages take about one to two weeks from approved artwork to pickup, so reach out at least three to four weeks before the event date to leave room for design revisions. Rush work is often possible, so ask early.
Vector files (AI, SVG, PDF) are ideal, but they’re not required: our design team can convert a Pinterest reference, an invitation suite, or a hand-drawn sketch into cut-ready artwork. Script fonts need small connecting bridges so letters stay in one piece, and that’s a detail we handle during file prep.
Cost depends on material, size, and quantity. As a general range, single welcome signs typically run from under a hundred dollars for simple engraved pieces to a few hundred dollars for large layered acrylic designs, while sets of table numbers or place cards are priced per piece and get more economical with quantity.
