SLS 3D Printing Services in Los Angeles

Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) fuses nylon powder into strong, functional parts with no support structures — which means complex geometries, interlocking assemblies, and living hinges print exactly as designed. It’s our go-to for end-use parts and low-volume production runs at the Glendale studio.

How SLS Works

A laser selectively fuses (sinters) a bed of fine nylon powder, layer by layer. The surrounding unfused powder supports the part as it builds, so no support structures are needed — and none have to be removed afterward. Parts come out of the powder bed strong, accurate, and ready for light finishing.

What SLS Is Best For

Functional nylon parts commonly start around $40, and because pricing is driven by build-chamber volume, batching multiple parts in one run improves value significantly — details in our 3D printing cost guide.

SLS vs Other Technologies

SLS and Multi Jet Fusion both print support-free nylon — MJF gives denser, more consistent parts for production runs, while SLS offers excellent all-round mechanical performance. For cheaper visual prototypes, FDM; for fine detail and smooth surfaces, SLA; for metal, DMLS. Not sure? We advise on every quote.

SLS 3D Printing FAQs

How strong are SLS parts?

Strong enough for end use — SLS nylon has excellent, nearly isotropic mechanical properties, which is why it’s a standard choice for functional parts and short-run manufacturing.

Does SLS really need no supports?

Correct — the unfused powder bed supports every layer. That’s what makes internal channels, lattices, and pre-assembled moving parts possible.

What surface finish should I expect?

A slightly grainy, matte texture straight off the printer. Parts can be bead-blasted or dyed for a cleaner look — tell us your finish requirements when you quote.

SLS or MJF — which should I choose?

Both print tough nylon without supports. MJF tends to produce denser, more uniform parts and shines in production batches; SLS is a great all-rounder. We’ll recommend the better fit on your quote — or compare on our MJF page.
